Up 5 Chair
Manufacturer: B&B Italia
Since its first appearance, the Up series, designed in 1969, has been one of the most outstanding expressions of design. The exceptional visual impact of seven models of seats, in various sizes, has made them unique in time. Up5 is the collection’s most famous, a female figure tied to a ball-shaped ottoman symbolizing the shackles that keep women subjugated’. A large sculpture that celebrates both the modern and the traditional, the UP7 “foot” is almost an archaeological relic of the modern era, expressing a fusion of art and design. Elastic fabric cover is available in black, red, yellow, blue and dark green, besides the beige and orange striped solution.
Gaetano Pesce

Gaetano Pesce is an artist, architect and designer, but some would more accurately describe him as an explorer of color and form. Now located in New York City, Pesce has completed an extensive body of work which can be found all over the world. His architectural studies began in his native country at the University of Venice Faculty of Architecture. By living and working in over ten countries, Pesce has developed an international style that uses figurative imagery to communicate feeling. His work is focused on material innovation, uninhibited use of color, and his designs react against the hard-lined “antiseptic” look of modernism.
Pesce’s work is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Modern Art Museum in Turin and many other institutions worldwide. His furniture was produced by several of the renowned manufacturers including B & B Italia, Knoll, Cassina and Vitra.
