Robert Sabuda

One of the most successful paper engineers and illustrators of his time, Robert Sabuda has been designing pop-up books since grade school. He attributes his hands-on passion to growing up in Michigan, the son of a mason and carpenter. While attending Pratt in New York City, he gained experience at Dial Books for Young Readers. In 1997 he received the Gold Kite Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators for his illustration of The Paper Dragon. Sabuda has created over 30 pop-up and illustrated books, as well as cards and limited edition prints. Now located in Manhattan’s upper west side, Sabuda works on new books, while teaching paper engineering at Pratt.
