Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid received a degree in mathematics from the American
University of Beirut before studying at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. In 1980 she opened her own London-based practice, but it was not until 1994 that her first project was built, the Vitra Fire
station in Weil am Rhein, Germany. The fluidity and abstract elements of her architectural designs have in many cases required advancements in technology so that the projects could finally be realized. Hadid has created over 950 projects in forty-four countries and in 2004 was the first woman to be awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize. in 2012, Zaha Hadid was awarded a DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
